The community of Weddington, North Carolina is located approximately 15 miles southeast of the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. Weddington has a population of about 10,000 persons and is considered an affluent area. Though the majority of the town of Weddington is located in Union County a small corner of it extends into Mecklenburg County.
 
The town consists of about 16 square miles of land with about 4204 people per square mile. Almost all of the Weddington homes are single family dwellings in the majority of households in Weddington unmarried couples. This is the community that feeling of an extended family. Weddington Real Estate and Homes – History

The community of Weddington was established around a church which local farmers had raised the sum of $262.00 to build. The town itself was built around the small church which was originally known as Sandy Ridge Methodist Episcopal.

Because the church was built on land donated by a man named Reuben Weddington, the church became known as Weddington Methodist Church and the surrounding community took its name from the church. The residents of Weddington, North Carolina have always been fiercely proud of their agricultural heritage and the country atmosphere the community has.
 
The down-home feel of the community of Weddington is present even today by the lavish home and affluent residents. In order to keep this small community feel the town of Weddington petitioned the North Carolina General Assembly for official incorporation when the possibility of being annexed into the city of Charlotte became iminent. On May 2, 1983 and Weddington, North Carolina officially became incorporated.
 
The Weddington still retains its rustic feel, old farm houses are refurbished to become lavish second-home and the small farm to market roads began to carry the Beamers and minivans. Weddington has kept up with the times and improved the roads and school systems to cater to this new type of resident; the busy family who desires a quiet and peaceful place in which to raise children while still maintaining a moderate tax rate.
