Gastonia is the county seat for Gaston County and where two thirds of the county’s residents live. It is also considered part of the Charlotte Metropolitan statistical area. Gastonia is located about 19 miles west of Charlotte, North Carolina and interstate I-85 runs through the town. Gastonians enjoy easy access to the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. The city also has its own municipal Airport as well as being served by Amtrak, Charlotte Area transport, and a local bus route, Gastonia transit. The town of Gastonia has experienced around a 10% growth in the last 15 years and all signs indicate it will continue to thrive.

Gastonia features a smaller community living atmosphere with many cultural, entertainment, and educational opportunities. Daniel Stowe’s botanical gardens are also to be found in Gastonia, North Carolina. This gorgeous botanical Garden is situated on 350 square acres with a woodland trail, fountains, and an Orchid Conservatory. The orchid Conservatory is the only public Conservatory in the region that features tropical plants and is intended to be a year-round attraction.

Part of the Crowders Mountain State Park is within the city limits in this area is popular with fans of outdoor activities. There are several hiking trails located in the Crowders Mountain State Park and those leading to the summit of Crowders Mountain are marked as strenuous.  Gastonia also has its own American Military Museum with a large collection of military memorabilia and artifacts that cover the civil war period all the way to Desert Storm.
