This village began as a small rural campground and an unofficially designated meeting place for settlers from miles around. In the late 1800s there were three gold mines located around Price Mill. The village of Wesley Chapel remained an unofficial and unincorporated entity until the 1990s when they incorporated to avoid annexation by the city of Charlotte. Wesley Chapel grew slowly and relatively unchecked until they incorporated. At that time the newly elected officials put into effect certain measures to ensure this village maintained a slow rate of growth and preserved the small community atmosphere so prized by its residents and admired by visitors.
