South Charlotte
is considered part of the city of Charlotte North Carolina.  However, areas in Charlotte are diverse in make-up and if you are not a lifelong resident of the city then knowing where one area begins and another starts might be difficult.   In short South Charlotte covers the southern portion of the city that is between Pineville and Matthews North Carolina.   More importantly, South Charlotte has some of the nicest homes and the best neighborhoods in all of Charlotte North Carolina.

South Charlotte allows the resident to enjoy all the luxuries and amenities of a city living in small developments that keep the small town feeling and most have their own shopping and schools.  South Charlotte is well known for its 8.9 miles of hiking trails that are currently being refurbished.  There are also two greenways in South Charlotte operated by the Charlotte Park and Recreation Department.

One notable community in the South Charlotte area is “The Sanctuary” and its idea and implementation are unique.  Each home site is called a preserve and is from 2 to 13 acres.  The entire community is built with green techniques and has 20 miles of nature trails and 200 acres of natural area.   The Sanctuary is just one of the unique and excellent neighborhoods in South Charlotte.

South Charlotte is a mix of communities working in harmony and its early history reflects this.  The blend of groups makes for some unique shopping and historical attractions.  The Levine Museum in South Charlotte is a must see and presents a breathtaking panorama of Southern history and the blending of cultures that made Charlotte great.

South Charlotte is also home to the Johnson C. Smith University which was once known as the Biddle Institute.  It was formed shortly after the Civil War to educate teachers and preachers.

South Park has to be the crowning jewel of South Charlotte it is a residential center and the second largest business district in the state.

South Park also features the Charlotte Symphony’s Summer Pops concert in the amphitheater in South Park. 
The Ballantyne Country Club and residential neighborhood is a true attraction for any visitor.  The homes in this area are stunning and also priced in the $500,000 and up range.

South Charlotte is a relatively new area with the oldest residential areas dating to around the 1960s.  It is however one of the more affluent areas with breathtaking homes and landscaping.  However South Charlotte also has upscale areas that are in the reach of couples just beginning, such as the Starmount neighborhood.  These are well made ranch homes with well established trees and low through traffic.  Starmount is a popular area for first time home owners and couples just starting out. 

Most of South Charlotte has grown up in the last 30 or so years.   However these developments have become established and now have a culture of their own.  South Park and Ballantyne are the most well known of the South Charlotte areas and synonymous for shopping and elegant stately homes.
