Harrisburg is located about 15 miles west of Uptown Charlotte and considered a suburb of Charlotte. Interstate highway I485 which leads into Charlotte is approximately two miles from Harrisburg.I85 and NC highway 49 are nearby and make travel in the area nearly effortless. The famous Southpark mall lies 20 miles south of the town of Harrisburg in addition to the multiple local stores and shops in the town of Harrisburg as well as the surrounding communities.

The Harrisburg area was originially inhabited by the native Americans and in the 1730s the first white settlers begon to arrive. When the railroads finally arrived Harrisburg was known as Harrisburg Depot, a stop on the railroad line. Because of the railroad's importance in the town's growth the city center of Harrisburg was established around the railroad depot. As transportation moved from the railroad to the highways the city center also began a migration of it's own establishing new buildings, such as the town hall near Carolina Hwy 49. The town of Harrisburg though respectful of its past has kept pace with the changing country and technology.
